Why are Storms Named after Women?

I have been wondering about this for very long time...

Then I found the answer in The Times Of India.

"Tropical cyclones are named to ease communication between forecasters and the people and to reduce confusion when two or more tropical storms occur at the same time at different locations.

"Clement Wragge, an Australian meteorologist, is credited with initiating the use of names for cyclones. Using women's names became a practice during World War II, following the use of a woman's name for the storm in the 1941 novel, 'Storm', by lexicographer George Steward."

"The practice continued till 1978, after which the names of both men and women began to be used. The modern naming system devised by the Geneva-based World Meteorological Organi-sation uses the alphabetical order and says that the name cannot be repeated for six years. "

So there are also male names too.... They are not named after any speific reason...
